As standard, the SCC in the Netherlands is often used by contractors in order to demonstrate how a company complies with health and safety laws and regulations. The SCC has been developed by a number of large industrial companies in the Botlek an unambiguous measurement system to use for contractors and other external service providers. Many clients require from their suppliers that they are VCA certified.

 

Another common standard for this is OHSAS 18001. The OHSAS 18001 is an international standard. OHSAS stands for Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series’: loosely translated: the requirements for the management of health and safety in the workplace. It is a guide for setting up a health and safety management system and is applicable to all types of businesses. The structure of the OHSAS 18001 standard is identical to ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001, which is the integration of different standards.

Part of an occupational health care system is the Risk Inventory and Evaluation (RI & E). This provides insight into the strengths and weaknesses in the areas of safety, health and welfare of the company. The purpose is mainly to prevent absenteeism especially small businesses are very vulnerable. It is difficult for medium and small businesses to meet all these requirements.
